Global Grain Production: Record Highs Amid Regional Challenges
The International Grains Council (IGC) forecasts global grain production for the 2024/25 season at 2,311 million tonnes, marking a slight decline from earlier estimates but still near record levels. Despite this overall robust production, regional variations and challenges are emerging:
Wheat Production
Global wheat production is expected to be the second-largest on record, with notable increases in output from South Asia (India and Pakistan) and parts of the Near East (Iraq and Iran)
The European Union is forecast to see an 11% increase in soft wheat production, reaching 126.6 million tonnes in 2025, up from 114.2 million tonnes in 2024
